A 43 year old hiker became stranded overnight in the Gate Buttress area in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah after falling 30 feet according to fox13now.com.

The man decided to wait overnight before attempting to hike out but then fell again.  Hikers and climbers found him Sunday morning and offered to call assistance.  He was extremely dehydrated and worn out. He did not have any life threatening injuries but did suffer bruises and possible fractures. Ultimately authorities had to call in a helicopter because he was too weak to hike out.

Authorities want this incident to be a cautionary tale about the importance of being prepared even on short trips.  Bringing things like extra food, water and light can make the difference if you are forced into an unplanned overnight stay.  Also they stressed the importance of hiking with a buddy and establishing return dates and times with friends and family before leaving.
