22 year old Canadian Olympic Bronze medal snowboarder Mark McMorris has been working hard in physical therapy to recover from the horrific broken femur he suffered during the Air & Style competition in LA in February.

The accident was somewhat freak in nature because the break didn’t happen upon impact after the air, rather he caught an edge on the runout caused by an uneven section of scaffolding in the landing area. He had this to say to cbc.com about the fall:
“It sucks because it was a freak accident that I didn’t really have any control over.”
The Regina native has been in Vancouver for the last 4 months, spending 3 to 4 hours per day in a rehabilitation center working to overcome breaking the biggest bone in the body:
“It makes you want to not take anything for granted ever again.”
The rest of the winter was tough for the consummate competitor, particularly in March when he watched all his buddies compete in an event in Vancouver. He freely admits recovery isn’t all physical and maintaining a positive frame of mind and “being over the injury” are important components to therapy. Mark has a great attitude about the recovery process and is optimistic about his comeback:
“I don’t feel any rod or any screws…I don’t think I am going to skip a beat.”
2.5 weeks post Femur surgery.
Glad to be in Vancouver 🇨🇦

He’s been back on his skateboard since June 23 and plans to start snowboarding again by August. Best wishes to Mark, he’s one of the funnest snowboarders to watch and we can’t wait for him to be back this season!
Here is a video of him skating on June 23rd:
Today was hands down the best day I've had since I broke my femur💯
Feeling so thankful🙏🏻
