While everyone knows that the ski season back east was one of the worst in history, Vermonters now have a number to show just how bad it was.

“The best thing about the season is that it’s over.” – Parker Riehle, Ski Vermont President.

According the Burlington Free Press, The Vermont ski industry saw skier visits plummet 30% from the previous year. The 2014/2015 season saw skiers turn out in record numbers with approximately 4.67 million skiers visiting the slopes of Vermont. In 2015, Jay Peak saw more snow than any other ski area in the continental United States with over 375″ of snowfall.

“The 2016 ski season has turned out to be a bust of historic proportions, the worst in the past 35 years in fact. We received just a bit over 100″ of snow for the season, well below our 225” average, made worse by the fact that whenever we did get snow it was followed up with rain, a thaw or both.”Mad River Glen Facebook Post

Vermont ski industry leaders are hoping that the oncoming La Niña will give northeastern ski areas a boost after the dismal season they experienced this past season.
