Mt. Lawson in Kananaskis Country, Alberta

While spring and the oncoming summer is consolidating much of the snow across North America, avalanches are still possible at high elevations after freak spring storms.

Such was the case for a solo climber who passed away on Tuesday while descending Mt. Lawson in the Kananaskis Country west of Alberta reports MSN News. The climber in question was without equipment when the avalanche occurred. The victim’s name has yet to be released.

Up to 40cm of cold snow had fallen on the peak in previous days, which created heightened, late-season avalanche conditions.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s friends and family
