Summiting Everest is a grueling experience for even the most seasoned of climbers but making it to the top with only one leg, that’s almost unbelievable.

Well consider it done because Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Charlie Linville is the first veteran amputee to climb the world’s highest peak reports NBC News. His team alerted the media to his accomplishment on Friday. While serving in Afghanistan, Linville was wounded by an IED and ultimately lost his leg from the knee down.

Linville has attempted the peak two times prior but was kept at bay by the tragic events of 2014 and 2015. In 2015, he left Everest after the devastating earthquakes in Nepal killed over 8,000 and would later help with aid efforts around Nepal.
