The Wood River Valley is in mourning this week after a fixture of the community died on Saturday while attempting to speedfly off Bald Mountain reports KTVB.

Jordan Niedrich was speedflying on the Upper Greyhawk trail when he crashed into the side of the mountain. Sun Valley ski patrol arrived on the scene just before 11am and were later assisted by the Ketchum Fire Department. Medical personnel attempted to revive Niedrich while en route to the St Luke’s Wood River Medical Center but those attempts were unsuccessful.

“Jordan’s defining passion was that of a life well lived. His commitment to an outdoor existence is the stuff of legend, and he expressed his adoration of the sport to all who were close to him.”Jordan Niedrich GoFundMe Page

Born in the Wood River Valley, Niedrich was a beloved local whose adventurous spirit brought him into the world of speedflying. A memorial was held yesterday on the summit of Bald Mountain and afterwards, attendees skied down in Niedrich’s honor.

GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Niedrich family navigate their recent loss. Donate here: Jordan Niedrich Memorial Fund
