A significant storm is brewing in the West with Arctic air dropping down from Alaska early next week. Areas of the Cascades, Sierra, and Rockies will grab several feet of good quality powder (Blower) from Tuesday- Thursday!

The Sierra, who has not seen a big dump in several weeks, will grab significant snow even at lake level by Wednesday. “What we really like about this storm is that it is coming in with light winds for the Sierra and primarily overnight Tuesday. Light density, low winds, and all overnight = most of upper mountains will be open with deep powder on Wednesday.” It is possible that snow will be falling as low as the mountain ranges just outside LA late Tuesday/Wednesday. In the Cascades snow will be falling Monday/Tuesday with levels dropping as low as 1,000 feet (Fantastic quality) from Mt Baker through Crystal (Low density fluff).

Time to call in sick- All overnight snow by Tuesday morning.

The Rockies will grab deep leftovers Wednesday/Thursday with steady snow impacting the north initially (Montana, Wyoming, N. Wasatch) and dropping south on Thursday. New Mexico and Arizona who have lagged behind late this winter will be catching up as several feet of powder should be falling from Flagstaff through Taos (I think some resorts might reopen by late next week?). Steamboat nabbed 12 inches of powder last night all within a 40 minute period (See below).

BONUS:

Steamboat Resort cleaned off it’s Powder Cam yesterday at 5PM. At 1AM last night a counterclockwise snow band set up directly over the Snow camera dumping up to a foot of fresh powder by 1:47 AM! That is 12 inch per hour snowfall rates! “This has all the ingredients of ‘El Nino’ with severe and unpredictable patterns” 12 inches of champagne powder all within 46 minutes last night! See the images below.
