A ski hill is reeling after a tragic accident claimed the life of a 13 year-old snowboarder this past weekend. According to CTV News Montreal, the boy in question was snowboarding off trail at Mont-Garceau on Friday when a portion of snow collapsed beneath him, leaving him in a freezing stream.

When two of his friends arrived on the scene, the boy was found unconscious. He was later pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Reports indicate that the teenager was an avid snowboarder and knew the mountain well. Flags at the ski area were at half mast on Saturday in the boy’s honor.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim.
