Moisture has been falling in the Cascades above 4500 feet where up to a foot of wet snow has fallen in many areas. Crystal Mountain reported 14 inches in the past 24 hours while Stevens had similar amounts. Whistler grabbed 14 inches last night! Snow quality is wind drifted and dense. Avalanche danger is rapidly rising in the PNW. Snow and rain showers will continue for the next several days before colder arrives on Saturday morning (3500 foot snow level). Moderate snow will be falling over the Cascade region during the day. The snow level drops to 2500 feet late Saturday night into Sunday with continued snowfall. Expect 12-18 inches between Saturday morning and Sunday night. 4-8 additional inches are likely above 4500 feet pnwThursday-Friday before the cold front arrives this weekend over the PNW. .
The models show higher amounts in the southern Cascades as well as Oregon. Oregon could see very high snow totals especially near Mount Hood through Monday.
A fetch of moisture will be aimed at central Idaho this weekend with significant snowfall above 7500 feet and rain at lower elevations. Upper mountain at Sun Valley or perhaps Brundage might be a good call with rain likely at the bases. Colder air on Sunday night and Monday will drop snow to the Valley floor with better quality.
Next week will continue to be wet. The snow level stays low on Monday with continued snow showers (Good quality could be decent amounts) with warmer air possible by Tuesday. There appears to be some hints of “ridging” by the middle of next week.
