A 30 year old accountant from New South Wales didn’t hesitate for a second when he saw a 7 year old girl in distress after being pulled out the sea by a rip.

Ryan Martin managed rescue the girl and hand off her unconscious body to awaiting lifeguards who resuscitated her on the beach, but he himself died during the effort after being washed up on sharp rocks according to an article by the Daily Mail.

His brother had this to say about his heroic efforts:

“He would always go out of his way to help anyone who needed it so it didn’t surprise me that he just threw himself into the water like that. It was just standard Ryan.”

We salute heroes like Ryan Martin who act fast in emergency situations. He paid the ultimate price but a seven year old girl has him to thank for his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
