While St. Bernards have reigned as the traditional avalanche rescue animal, a new player is entering the game. In a new video by NatGeo Wild, one trainer shows how Wolverines may be the future of animal-based avalanche rescue.

Once trained, the wolverine’s acute senses and ability to dig through snow with its claws make it a prime candidate to perform full burial rescues.

The only question, would you feel comfortable with a wolverine clawing at your face if buried. I guess whatever it takes– right?
