While the ski season in the alps has been full of ups and downs, a big storm is about to significantly change the snowpack in central and eastern Switzerland AKA the land of chocolate, skiing, and snow.

How significant is this “big storm?”

As of now, snow-forecast.com is predicting up to 6 feet of snow for what is considered one of (if not) the best ski resorts in the entire world– Zermatt Matterhorn. Also, if you’re familiar with how quickly storms can transform the terrain over the pond, 6 feet is more than enough to fill in lines that would otherwise be unskiable today. Also, look out for Saas Fee, Arabba, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Alagna to report big snowfall totals in the coming week.

Avalanche Danger To Rise With New Snow

However, with the past warming and cooling trends across the alps, the new loading event will likely heighten the avalanche danger almost immediately. Check the daily avalanche forecast and be cognizant of terrain traps and avalanche prone slopes.
