After receiving some huge dumps after the New Year, the alps have undergone a relatively prolonged dry period until this past week. Thankfully a large storm system blew into the alps on February 3rd and snow continues to fall across the Alps with the eastern side of Switzerland and Dolomites reporting some of the biggest snowfall totals. Until now, the Dolomites have largely been devoid of snowfall and the recent accumulation is saving the ski season for many Italians.

Future forecasts are indicating that Chamonix will continue to lead the snowfall charge for the season with up to 43″ over the next 6 days!

Other resorts across the alps are predicted to receive between 10″-35″ over the next six days with Courmayeur, Italy taking a close second with 35″ in the 6-day forecast. Generally speaking, this system will come in cold, warm up, and then leave cold. What exactly this temperature gradient will do to the snowpack in the alps has yet to be seen.
We will keep you updated on this storm as the western USA looks to the end of February for the high pressure ridge to break down, bringing more precipitation to the already snowy west.
