Drinking, steep slopes, and safety mattress sleds don’t mix.

According to The Local, one seasonal worker at Les Deux Alpes is dead after sledding down a ski slope on a mattress after drinking. The mattress apparatus in question is normally used to pad the uphill side of lift towers and pylons.

The tragic accident occurred at roughly 1pm and involved 5 winter employees, who after drinking, hauled the protective mattress up a red run known simply as “The Devil.”

After beginning their fatal slide, two people bailed from their makeshift sled while 3 other unfortunate souls headed towards tragedy. Their sled eventually reached a stand of trees and crashed, leaving two with serious injuries and killing another member of their party. Both of the injured victims remain in serious to critical conditions.
