A seven year-old skier is lucky to be alive after slipping off a chairlift nearly 40 feet above the ground. Actually, calling it luck would do the heroic actions of his classmate a great deal of injustice.
According to the thestar.com, a youth lost a ski while riding a chairlift @LakeridgeSkiResort and while turning around on the chair to see where it had landed, his body slipped off the chair. That’s when a literal boy hero stepped up to the plate. The hero in question grabbed the his fallen classmate and although he was unable to pull him back onto the chair, he held the boy tight. That action allowed for rescue personnel to reach the scene and provide a safety net for the boy to fall into. Once personnel were in place, the boy fell nearly 40 feet, bounced on the safety net and onto the ground.
He was then rushed to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police Sgt. Bill Calder commented on the boy’s actions saying, “For a seven year old to have that type of maturity and willpower, that is something that goes beyond the expectation for any kid — it’s basically heroic.”
