Reports from multiple sources are indicating that police are pursuing an investigation into the avalanche incident that shook Les Deux Alpes on Wednesday.
The investigation seeks to answer a few questions. The first of which, is how a teacher and his students found themselves skiing a black run that was marked as closed, especially after heavy snow elevated the avalanche risk. And secondly, if the teacher, who is currently injured, should be held responsible for those children who have already passed away and the others who remain seriously injured.

According to the BBC, Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem said a investigation “will throw all light” on how the tragic events of yesterday unfolded. So far, a 14 year-old boy and 16 year-old girl have been confirmed as fatalities in the incident in addition to a Ukranian man who was not a part of the school’s group. Two other students as well as the teacher were injured in the avalanche.
The slide was likely a skier triggered avalanche.
In an interview with Europe 1, the Minister for Sport and Youth, Patrick Kanner questioned the reasoning behind skiing such a slope during heightened avalanche conditions saying, “How could you consider taking children, after a period of heavy snow, on to a piste that was closed?”
Some sources are saying that the students may have skied ahead of their teacher.
The French President, Francois Hollande has since sent out his condolences to the friends and families of the victims.
