A skier is sitting on a slightly swaying chair, soaking in the scenery and knocking snow from their topsheets with a ski pole. All of a sudden the skiers riding the chair hear a creak and suddenly a snap. The chair all of a sudden is approaching the snow and that’s all she wrote.

This is every skier’s worst nightmare.

Luckily, no skier or snowboarder was on a chair that fell from the lift on Sunday morning at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe. According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, the accident happened on the North Bowl lift when a single chair fell from the cable. The incident occurred at approximately 10:58 am and resulted in Ski Patrol evacuating the entire chair.

65 people were consequently evacuated from the North Bowl chairlift.

The North Bowl Chair has since been closed and an investigation by the resort’s lift maintenance team is currently underway.

I hope the folks stuck on the chair got some serious vouchers…
