Hoping to avoid I-70 traffic by taking the train from Denver to Winter Park?

Unfortunately, that option will most likely not be available until next year, as negotiations between the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, and Union Pacific are still in the process of being fleshed out. Yet, with all the early season snow throughout Colorado, everyone but the Feds are missing out an a prime time position for capitalizing on mother nature’s most recent payload of the white stuff.

Predicted Ski Train Travel Time:

A little over two hours – approximately the same time as by car from central Denver to Winter Park via Berthoud Pass, with clear roads.  (56 miles by rail; 67 miles by car.)- skitrain.com

In a recent article from Colorado Public Radio, Winter Park spokesperson, Steve Hurlbert remarked on the status of a possible Ski Train return saying, “I think it’d be difficult to say that we’ll have service in 2016” to which he added “but never say never.”

Negotiations have been underway for months but no concrete details of a return date have been released. Hurlbert still thinks a Ski Train revival is a definite possibility adding that “all of us are still working hard and all of us still want to see it succeed.”
