The snowboarder involved in the tragic accident on Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has been identified. According to the JH News and Guide, the snowboarder is 23-year-old Callagy Fahey Ross from Stowe, Vermont.

Ross had just moved to Jackson five days earlier and was employed by the resorts ticket office for the winter season. However, her season was cut short on Monday after she went airborne in low visibility conditions and hit a tree on Moran. Moran is accessed by the Aprés Vous lift and is lined by trees on both sides.  The Teton County Coroner’s office indicated that she died from trauma to her torso and head caused by the impact with the tree. Deputy Coroner, Chris Mooney said, “it was a pure accident” adding, “she just lost control.”

A number of skiers saw the accident happen and along with ski patrol, rushed to aid Ross. Unfortunately, their efforts could not save her.

She was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

In a written obituary, the Ross family described the late daughter saying, “To know Callagy was to witness true beauty and share in a vibrancy that made all happy to be around her.” The family has requested that any donations in her name be directed towards the Vermont Works for Women, the Burton Chill Foundation, or the University of Vermont sailing team.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Callagy’s friends and family.
