An elderly man passed away on Tuesday while skiing at Steamboat Ski Area according to the Boulder Daily Camera. The man is 70-year-old James Wasicka from Louisville, Colorado.

Wasicka was skiing on the 10,568′ foot Mt. Werner at the time of the incident and one witness said that the elderly man tumbled forward, resulting in him landing face down in the snow. Routt County Sheriff’s Office are reporting that “The Victim did not hit any fixed objects and he did not hit any other skiers.”

The Routt County Coroner, Rob Ryg’s assessment was in line with that of the Sheriff’s Office. Ryg said after an initial assessment the incident “looks like some kind of medical event” adding, it was “probably not an accident.”
