Very cold air is going to stream down from Canada early next week bringing snowfall to many areas of the Rockies. Montanaand northern Idaho  will feel the first impacts early Tuesday followed by the Sierra.  Most areas of northern Idaho as well as Montana see 4-8 inches of snowfall with the passing cold front.  The Tetons grab action Wednesday morning (Wildcard for amounts- Wind direction not optimal but cold air alone could bring a decent shot of 3-6). Higher amounts likely in Yellowstone to the north as well as central and southern Wyoming.
Powder Alert is issued for heavy snow in the Sierra during the day Tuesday into the evening. Snow showers continue there on Wednesday.  Total amounts will be 9-12 inches above 7,000 feet and 4-8 inches at lower elevations.  That system brings moderate snowfall to central Idaho late Tuesday morning that continues into Wednesday (7-11). The Wasatch in Utah goes into alert on Wednesday with several hours of cold air orographics bringing a quick hit of 5-9 inches during the day (2 inch per hour snowfall rates).  Snow showers continue in the Wasatch into Thanksgiving day (Additional 2-4). The lake could kick in an extra punch! Total snowfall will be 7-13 inches.
Colorado: The system races across central and southern Wyoming under NE flow (Blizzard conditions likely for Interstate 80). Â Laramie will grab heavy snowfall with some spillover into northern Colorado. Â Areas along and north of I-70 should grab 3-7 inches with the highest amounts towards the Wyoming border.Steamboat deserves watching with higher amounts possible. Areas in the northern front range could also get moderate amounts (Estes Park, Nederland, Winter Park). Â Current models take most moisture over the Wyoming border.
