Another cold storm is on track to impact the Sierra tomorrow, bringing accumulations of up to 14” to the Sierra Mountains west of Lake Tahoe. The snowfall will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts up to 95 mph. So far models are predicting up to 12” for the Lake Tahoe totals area.

This system will move through the region more quickly than the last storm. Travel impacts can be expected in the Sierra from western Lassen County through the Tahoe Basin into Mono County.- NWS RENO

This is the third consecutive storm coming south from the Gulf of Alaska. These storms have left the Tahoe area with a stellar early season snowpack that will only get better after the Sunday storm. Tahoe is currently 258% of normal according to the Snotel data indicated by the National Water and Climate Center

Lake enhanced snow bands will likely form, but due to the faster frontal passage, contributions to snow totals will be somewhat limited.- NWS RENO

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 6 TO 12 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET…UP TO 14
INCHES POSSIBLE ALONG THE SIERRA CREST. BELOW 7000 FEET…3 TO 6
INCHES…UP TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE ALONG AND WEST OF HIGHWAY 89.

* SNOW LEVELS: QUICKLY DROPPING BELOW 6000 FEET SUNDAY MORNING.

* WINDS: SOUTHWEST 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH SUNDAY
