According to the Whistler/Blackcomb weather forecast, The mountains are looking to receive up to 69cm in the next 4 days alone

Current models are forecasting the freezing levels to fluctuate from between 1600 m and 800m, which could provide for periouds of high mosture content acculumulation. However, the storm is supposed to leave at its coldest, which will provide for powder conditions in the alpine of the Coast Mountains.

Synopsis

A frontal system pushes into the region overnight tonight, bringing moderate to heavy snow and strong wind for tomorrow. Snow at times may be mixed with rain as the temperature hovers near zero in the alpine.

The system lingers into Friday, with snow occasionally mixed with rain tapering off late afternoon.

Powerful wind storm to strike the BC coast Thursday…

A powerful low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will send an intense cold front barrelling toward the BC coast tonight. This rapidly moving storm will provide a few hours of increasingly strong southeast winds as it approaches, followed by a wind shift and a few hours of rapidly diminishing westerly winds after it passes.

The strongest winds will occur after midnight on the North and Central Coasts. On the South Coast including Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo, the strongest winds will occur Thursday morning.

Very heavy rain will accompany this system with total rainfalls between 50 and 100 millimetres likely. Rain from the storm may linger over Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley Friday, boosting rainfall totals above 100 millimetres.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

Recently, rumors are spreading concerning the possibility of an early opening and all the new snow in the forecast may just tip the scales in the locals’ favor.
