Copper Peak is home to America’s largest ski jump. The jump, which is located on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan’s northernmost region hasn’t seen a jump since 1994 but that is all about to change according to Upper Michigan’s Source.

The jump, which hosts the niche sport of ski flying (not ski jumping) will host its first competition in September of 2017. The FIS will host the competition as the only event in the Grand Prix Summer Series.
What’s the difference between Ski Flying and Ski Jumping?
Generally speaking, ski flying is ski jumping older, long-lost brother. Like ski jumping, similar skis are used but the distances one travels in the air are generally a good deal longer.

However, before any jumps occur, the jump itself must be renovated completely including a resurfacing of the jump and the implementation of an artificial landing zone.

The site has recently been used by freeskier Sammy Carlson, who recently used the jump for a shoot with Teton Gravity Research for his new film, The Sammy C Project, which is due out in November of this year!
