After reigning supreme in the world of indoor skiing since the beginning, it looks as though Norway is about to knock off Dubai as the indoor skiing capital of the world.
In an interview with Norweigan media company TV2 chief executive of Lorensburg Winter Park, Kjetil Fladmark-Larsen told one reporter, “On 9 September 2015,  the green light was given to start construction of Skihallen.” According to the thelocal.no, the six-story edifice will include shopping, lodging, and restaurants in addition to the ski center.
As of now the indoor skiing facility looks to become the biggest in the world at 36,000 square meters with the longest run being 505 meters long and 100 meters wide.
The facility will be able to accommodate 5,000 skiers every hour. In addition to the downhill skiing, a nordic center will be compliment the center, allowing for 1,000 nordic skiers to train and compete in nordic events. Also, plans for a large downhill are in the works.
Fladmark-Larsen is optimistic that the new building will serve as both a school and as a place to train, making the building “the future training centre for winter sports athletes.”
