What was once a best-kept secret ski area among Heli operations and backcountry skiers is now open to New Zealand’s skiing public. That is if you have $580 for a day ticket…

Developer John Darby, who previously worked at Remarkables Ski Resort in the 1980’s, is now running Soho Basin. The ski area is currently offering cat skiing to the public at the price of $295 for a four run half day or $580 for a full day ticket reports the New Zealand Herald.

Darby hopes to construct lifts and create a ski resort on the land in the coming years.

Although he no longer owns the surface property, Darby retains the right to develop a ski resort. He previously served as the infrastructure supervisor at The Remarkables skifield.
