As autumn’s wind blows into the Rocky Mountains, bears are beginning their annual forage before heading towards their long winter naps.
However, as the bears come into the open and subsequently gorge themselves on berries, tourists are getting their fill of ego and stupidity via their own Instagram accounts. Actually, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife have closed a popular hiking trail after selfie taking tourists posed a problem for park officials.

“We’ve actually seen people using selfie sticks to try to get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet of wild bears,” Brandon Ransom told Denver 9 News. Ransom serves as the manager of Denver Water’s manager of recreation.
And that said, it appears as though bears are not the only ones who dislike selfie taking tourists.
So in order to avoid becoming a footnote in this years upcoming Darwin Awards, the Waterton Canyon trail will remain closed until the bears begin retreating to their den’s.
