I feel like this is a prank…

Reports of September snow falling on Mammoth Mountain came in late in the day and now I hear that it’s snowing in Alaska. This can’t be real.

Except for it is.

The Friends of the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center are reporting that some “friends” found over a foot of fresh in some spots yesterday and according to their facebook page, it’s still snowing.

“Yesterday we found over a foot of fresh snow above 5000′ in the Crow Pass area. Given current temps and precipitation it’s probably snowing again up high. If you are tempted to check out the snow after this storm clears be sure to carry your ave gear.”

Remember, early season avalanche danger is extremely real. Be sure all necessary avalanche equipment as well as wilderness first aid supplies.
