When it comes to lift lines, some say ignorance is bliss. However, that’s not the stance Vail Resorts is taking.

On Thursday morning, Vail Resorts announced that their new app extension EpicMix Time will allow users to view lift lines in a whole new way. Using bluetooth as well as wireless signals, the app will tell its users how long estimated lift line waits will be with more accuracy than ever before.

According to executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Kristen Lynch, “EpicMix Time delivers time transparency to our guests, showing them lift line wait times across the mountain, providing them with information to choose where to ski and ride, and giving them more time on the slopes.”

“This is just another innovation from our team that introduces more digital technology to the mountain in a way that does not interfere with the guest experience or the incredible beauty of our mountain resorts.”

The new application will be available at Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Beaver Creek for the 2015-2016 winter season. If everything goes according to plan, the resort group plans on bringing it to its other resort destinations as well.

“Similar to apps showing traffic flow, like Google Maps or Waze, we’re applying unique and sophisticated analytics to aggregated, anonymous location data generated by smart phones and other mobile devices across the distinct topography and layout of our chairlifts to calculate reliable wait time information for our guests. We are truly leading the travel industry in how to incorporate technology into the guest experience.”- Robert Urwiler, Vail Resorts’ executive vice president and chief information officer.
