The Vermont Ski Areas Association is saying that the 2014/2015 ski season was the best ever in terms of skier visits.

At the end of the season, the amount of skier visits totaled a whopping 4.7 million, which broke the previous record number that came during the 2000/2001 ski season. After heavily publicized storms pummeled the northeast and a lack of snow pervaded the West, it seems that many east coasters decided to spend their ski days in Vermont.

Throughout the season, storms came in cold and left cold, leaving mid-winter powder conditions through many of the winter months. That, along with late season snowfall, saw resorts such as Killington running its lifts through Memorial Day Weekend in what they referred to via social media as a #beastwinter.

President of the Vermont Ski Areas Association, Parker Riehle is saying that this past season came close to being “a near perfect winter.” And the state of Vermont should agree after it collected 220 million in tax revenues from ski related expenses. According to the VSAA, “those revenues increased 4%, with the rooms & meals tax revenue alone topping last season by 8%.”
