This past Friday, a lone dog was found on the summit of Poland’s Mount Rysy.  The mountain, which is located in the Tatra Mountains on Poland’s southern border with Slovakia, is the tallest mountain in all of Poland.

The dog, which appears to have been abandoned and left to die, was found in a frightened state by climbers on the peak. Once discovered, the climbers began a doggie rescue effort that would eventually take 10 hours. According to reports, climbers sought the help of rescue services but were told that rescue services only apply to humans. So instead, the group of climbers utilized a system of ropes and chains to lower the canine to safety. After the ordeal, the group renamed the abandoned canine Rysy.

Currently, local authorities and animal rights representatives are searching for the person responsible and seek to press animal cruelty charges.
