Winter is not ending! El Nino is strengthening with warmer waters heading further East in the Equatorial Pacific. This will increase moisture into the summer months in the Southwest. Predictions are for this trend to possibly continue through early winter 2015/16. A stronger El Nino year =higher chances of killing the drought in California, return of normal snowfall for the central Rockies and Northwest (Wildcard). The southern Rockies could benefit with higher than average snowfall.
Powder is flying currently in southern Colorado. Expect 12-18 inches above 9500 feet (Wet snow) through Tuesday. Most moisture aims towards areas south of Interstate 70 through Monarch, Crested Butte, Lake County. Pikes Peak before heading north late tonight. Areas along I-70 will see snowfall late tonight through Tuesday with moderate snowfall (A- Basin is still open). Winds are SW tonight shifting to SE in the morning. Areas east of the Divide will do best however amounts near Loveland Pass and perhaps A-Basin will be worthy of a chase. Avalanche Danger is rapidly increasing with high density snowfall! Treat all closed ski are terrain similar to backcountry! More snow is on tap towards the end of the week especially in the Wasatch. Heavy moisture Tuesday will tip the scales on records for May moisture!
