Skier Anna FenningerImage: 2014-2015 overall World Cup winners Anna Fenninger

Within the world of skiing, World Cup ski racers are among the highest paid athletes. This past season’s overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher was the top earner pulling in 482,790 CHF (roughly $511,600 USD) in prize money. However, compare this to the PGA’s top earner, Rory McIlroy, who pulled in $8,280,095.50 in 2014. Shit, even professional dart player Michael van Gerwen of the Netherlands pulled in £728,500 (roughly $1,121,817.15 USD) in the past year.

“This past season’s overall World Cup winners Anna Fenninger and Marcel Hirscher, both hailing from Austria, may have topped the 2014-15 prize money rankings by substantial margins, but the sport still lags behind most in total payouts to competitors.

Hirscher concluded his 2014-15 campaign as the top earner with 482,790 CHF (roughly $511,600 USD), courtesy of his 14 podiums, eight of which were victories. Fenninger was the only other skier to top the 400,000 CHF mark as her six victories and 15 podium finishes added up to prize money earnings of 431,701 CHF ($457,100 USD).”
