POWDER ALERT- CASCADES: April Fools is bringing it some of the coldest air of the season for the Pacific Northwest perhaps a bit too late? Snow levels will drop as low as 2500 feet with moderate accumulations at most resorts through this evening. 15-17 inches has fallen atAlpental (Closed) over the past 10 hours according to automated snow data. 5-8 inches has fallen at Crystal Mountain(Open) Snow showers continue today (2-4) with a break likely on Thursday. Snow will increase again Friday evening into Saturday morning and again on Sunday (Several 3-6 inch events). Look for some new openings perhaps in the PNW by the weekend. Long term trend looks colder so new snowfall will hold up well.
COLORADO: Moist Northerly flow sets up late tonight over the mountains which transitions to Northeast on Thursday morning. Snow will be falling along the front range foothills Thursday mid morning. Flow turns Northwesterly late Thursday as a cold front drags along the Continental Divide mid afternoon Thursday through Friday morning. Expect 2-4 inches primarily late Thursday fromSummit County east and another 3-5 inches possible Thursday night. Areas near Vail and West will see lower amounts (2-4). Some areas closest to the Divide (Loveland, A Basin, Eldora, Winter Park) could see higher amounts (5-10). Best days to ride will be last chair Thursday or first chair on Friday.
POWDER WATCH SIERRA: Models are advertising a high probability of moderate snowfall late this weekend. Some of the coldest air of the season drops down the spine of the Sierra (North to south) late Sunday into Monday. Moderate snowfall will be falling in most of the Sierra (Mammoth, Lake Tahoe etc.) through Monday morning. There will be a break late Monday morning. A slightly stronger system with more moisture appears to move in late Monday night or early Tuesday and continue through early Wednesday morning (Tapers after 3AM). Snow levels will be as low as 4500 feet! Confidence is high for decent snow totals through the period. May not be a single deep event however cold air orographics and even weak moisture tap from the pacific will bring a tease to those that have not seen the white room all season.
