7 DAY POWDER FORECAST- HEAVY SNOW LIKELY IN THE CASCADES!

The Wasatch reaps moderate rewards during the day Wednesday (5am-5pm) where 6-9 should fall above 8,000 feet and 3-5 below at lower elevations (Most ranges of the Wasatch will see widespread snowfall and low snow levels).  A second wave moves over the Wasatch under a west flow Wednesday night bringing another 2-4 inches for Thursday morning.   PM chairs Wednesday and early AM chairs on Thursday are my picks!Moisture is beginning to stream into the coastal areas of California this morning and will move inland over the Sierra by 10 AM.   Heavy snow will fall during the late morning and afternoon ares before tapering to light snow into Wednesday AM (7-14 upper elevations, 3-6 lower elevations).   That system moves directly west over Nevada (Ruby Mountains) where 12-20 inches are likely Tuesday night (Central and northern Nevada East of Reno).

The Tetons (Grand Targhee) grab moisture that streams north from the Wasatch on Wednesday and Thursday. Expect 1-3 inches Wednesday and perhaps 2-4 into Thursday (Thursday will be the best day of the bunch).   Long Term?  Read the Powder Watch for the PNW below.  Snow looks to move back into the Tetons Sunday and again mid next week as a series of systems moves from the Cascades through Idaho and Wyoming.

Colorado grabs leftovers Wednesday night and Thursday.  Most moisture will be from I-70 North under NW/West flow.  Highest moisture is along the Wyoming border.  Look for moderate amounts near Steamboat and a wildcard for Vail and Beaver Creek.  General amounts look to be in the 3-5 inch range however cold air orographics and west flow can pull some deep surprises in the Flat Top ranges near Steamboat.  Not surprised to see 4-8 inches or more in some areas of the northern mountains by Thursday morning (Confidence best in the far northern areas).

POWDER WATCH- PACIFIC NORTHWEST – BRITISH COLUMBIA FRIDAY-TUESDAY

It seems like certain resorts are rising from the dead this week but it may be a bit too late to get them walking (Upper elevations of the Sierra recover somewhat today and tonight for the few resorts that are open).   The Pacific Northwest and areas of British Columbia have the potential to reap 1-3 feet of snow between Friday and early next week.   There are 3 waves of cold air and moisture.  The first arrives late this week with subsequent dumps Sunday/Monday and again on Tuesday.  We like the period from Sunday- Tuesday best!  Confidence is rising! Is it too late to get those resorts walking?
