A North Conway man is dead after he fell over a 60-foot drop at Wildcat Ski Area. The accident occurred on Monday morning while Samuel Moore, 34, participated in the 12th Annual Wildcat Mountain 100,000 Vertical Foot Challenge, a fundraiser to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire.
At 9:30 a.m., the Wildcat Ski Patrol responded to a report of a injured skier on the Lower Polecat trail, in an area known as the 5-Corners. A preliminary investigation determined that Moore lost control near the bottom of the 5-Corners trail, and tumbled down the trail, and eventually over a 60-foot drop.
Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.
In its 11 previous years combined, the Vertical Challenge has raised nearly $600,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
