Cole Anderson, 18, of Campbell River is reported to have died over the weekend in a tragic ski accident on Blackcomb Mountain.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon at around 3 p.m. in the Crystal Zone of Blackcomb Mountain.

Ski patrol responded to a call of an injured skier. When they arrived they found Anderson unconscious and unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were not successful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has been reported that Anderson was skiing on a black diamond run when he went past a marked cliff area. It appears he could not stop before the cliff and ended up going over.

Whistler Blackcomb Director of Operations Doug MacFarlane told Global News the victim was freeskiing with a group when he skied off the cliff.
