A teenager fell 1,640 feet off a cliff edge at Mölltal Glacier in Carinthia in the Austrian Alps because he was taking a selfie. Amazingly the14-year-old emerged with just bumps and bruises.
The 14-year-old pupil, who has not been named, was on a school trip last week to the Mölltal Glacier in Carinthia in the Austrian Alps, when on the final day of the holiday his group stopped at the peak of Mount Scharek at 2,600m to take photos of themselves with the Alpine backdrop.
The boy, from a school near Leeds, was with a ski instructor and five friends when he stepped backwards while holding his phone in front of him and slipped off a cliff edge, plummeting 1,640 feet (500m), according to the Mirror.
The fall is the second selfe-related incident in a ski resort to be reported in a week after a 28-year-old Australian skier was said to have survived a 1,000 foot fall after ducking under a boundary rope to take a selfie in the Grand Targhee ski area in Wyoming and slipping off a cliff edge. – telegraph.co.uk
It was reported that the teen was then airlifted to hospital in Schwarzach, 20 miles away. Remarkably the teen only suffered a few cuts and bruises and was “absolutely fine”.
