POWDER ALERT-CO,MT EPIC WATCH- CO/NM THIS WEEKEND

From: Powderchasers.com

Synopsis CASCADES, MONTANA, WASATCH, WYOMING:   2 distinct systems will move into the West.  The first brings snow to interior BC  tonight and drops into Montana and Wyoming on Wednesday.  Moderate snow under North/Northwest flow will do well for Big Sky and Bridger Bowl (3-8) and graze the Tetons Tuesday night (1-2) and again late Wednesday AM (2-4).   The Pacific Northwestfinally nabs low snow levels Thursday-Saturday (3,500 average snow level dropping late weekend) with consistent light snow allowing a decent freshening (5-8 likely over several days). Oregon may see higher amounts by Saturday AM.  The Sierra will get leftovers Friday PM/Saturday (3-5). TheWasatch will see light snow beginning Friday and continuing into Sunday. Higher snow amounts will be found in the southern and central regions of Utah late this week. The San Juan mountains picked up impressive snow totals over 72 hours.  42inches is reported at Wolf Creek Ski area and over 28 inches at Telluride, Monarch,Durango, and Silverton in the past 3 days.   Taos and Crested Butte nabbed well over a foot of freshies.  I chased from Steamboat Saturday to Wolf Creek Sunday and Monarch on Monday (Saw a total of 50 inches in 3 days).  On Sunday it was snowing 3-4 inches per hour over Wolf Creek Pass (Thanks CDOT for keeping the road open).

COLORADO POWDER ALERT:

Cold air orographics kick in early Wednesday and enhance late PM through Thursday morning.  This will impact areas from Steamboat, Vail Pass through Summit County with some emphasis on resorts closer to the Front Range along the divide. Storm totals will be the low side of an alert (4-9).  Best day to ride will be last chair Wednesday or first chair Thursday.

EPIC WATCH 1-2 FEET OF SNOW THIS WEEKEND- 4 CORNERS

Confidence is very high for a significant storm for the San Juans this weekend.  Low pressure tracks across the 4 corners (AZ,UT,CO,NM) beginning late Friday and continues into Sunday.  I am most bullish for southern Colorado followed by northern New Mexico.  Peak snowfall will be Saturday/Sunday (1-2 feet).  This storm will be slightly warmer than the last with lower snow ratios.   SW flow favors Wolf Creek, Durango, Silverton, Crested Butte and Taos.  Models show moisture spreading north into the I-70 corridor so a large area of central and southern Colorado should see snowfall (further north than the last system however SW flow is not ideal for I-70).  I would not be surprised to see respectable amounts at some resorts like Aspen and Isolated areas along the continental Divide near I-70.

EXTENDED:  Hints of a decent storm hitting the Tetons and Wasatch  and northern Colorado in the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame next week!
