EPIC ALERT- UT/CO/NM/AZ- SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS- 4 CORNERS
From: Powderchasers
SYNOPSIS: The Wasatch nabbed nearly 10 inches at upper elevations yesterday which made some locals happy that almost forgot what Powder looked like! The Tetons got the light freshening that we forecasted and some areas in Colorado grabbed up to 18 inches. Steamboat had 8-10 fresh yesterday morning and has an additional 8 inches today! I was at Steamboat yesterday and can testify to some nearly epic conditions. Breckenridge was the Summit County winner with up to 16 inches by PM yesterday.
EPIC ALERT: 2-3 FEET OF DRY DENSITY POWDER
Snow is moving into the Southern areas this morning (Snowing moderately at Monarch and Wolf Creek). That should push into the I-70 corridor at some point today and tonight with additional accumulations. I expect 3-7 inches during the day today in the southern mountains. The big question is how much will make it north and currently with upslope conditions I am not confident on significant amounts for the I-70 corridor. Foothills or areas closest to the Front Range will do better. Surprises are possible like the 8 inches Steamboat nabbed last night (Not on my radar). Keep an eye out for Summit County. Last chair today at Monarch and Wolf Creek might be stellar.
Winds shift to the SW later today through Monday and will transport high snow totals to Brian Head, Flagstaff, Durango, Wolf Creek, Monarch, Silverton and Crested Butte (Wildcard). Telluride is a wildcard since it does best with N or NW winds. Aspen deserves watching as well as perhaps Breckenridge who can nab some southern leftovers. Northern New Mexico and Arizona (Taos, Santa Fe, Flagstaff) will grab decent amounts beginning today through Tuesday. Amounts will be in the 7-15 inch range. Snow will continue heavy Sunday night and Monday! Late Monday sees a shift further south in the San Juans with continued heavy snow(Tuesday will be another powder day).
I would not be surprised to see 3 foot snow totals by Tuesday in the san juans.
EXTENDED:
The extended pattern looks very promising for another deep storm for the southern and central portions of Colorado as well as Flagstaff next weekend! Stay tuned for updates.
