POWDER ALERT is for moderate to heavy snowfall over the next 3 days, specifically the Tetons. Most areas hit the alert last night as 7-9 inches has fallen at both Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (Dry Blower). Teton Pass looked deep late yesterday. The Caveat on the next storm is warm air moving in on Sunday will make for variable conditions down low, and smooth up top. Colorado and Utah brought some light freshening last night with 2-4 inches at many areas. Powder Watch issued for northern New England for 5-10 inches of snow Sunday-Monday.
Details: Snow will begin after midnight tonight n the Tetons (2 AM) and continue through Monday morning. Highest rates of snowfall appear to be Sunday morning and again Monday morning. Temperatures will be in the upper 20’s at the bases early Sunday and rise to near freezing by 11AM. Some rain will be falling in theJackson Valley. Warm temperatures will continue (Upper elevation snow, low elevation mix) through Sunday night. Amounts in the Tetons should be 1-3 Saturday night, 3-7 Sunday, and 3-7 Sunday night. Colder air arrives on Monday that has my eye on some possible medium density on top! Chases could include Sunday and Monday. My vote would be early Sunday (Warming as the day progresses) or perhaps better on Monday (Slightly drier). Moderate winds occasional gusts to 45 will be present through the weekend. My guess is that most resorts will end up seeing a fresh smooth layer of sit on top ripper by late Sunday or early Monday. Long term freshening?
The Cascades will see rain occasionally mixed with snow through Sunday morning. Colder air will turn all precipitation to snow on Sunday bringing a solid shot of 3-7 inches at upper elevations. Western Idaho will see mixed precipitation turning to all snow by Sunday afternoon (3-7).
New England will see a storm ski day Sunday with best amounts in the northern or central mountains extending into Monday (Maine). Pick late Sunday AM or early Monday.
Long term looks like a cold front drops down from interior BC next Thursday and into a good portion of Idaho on Friday or Saturday. The Tetons and areas of Colorado will get the leftovers.
