MK1You don’t want to miss this show! On the evening of Friday, January 9th, 2015 Alpenglow Sports presents the third installment of the Home Brew Series. Local Tahoe freeskier Meghan Kelly will entertain the North Tahoe community with a 2014 sailing and skiing expedition that began in Iceland and finished along the rugged southwest coast of Greenland. The trip was created in cooperation with the Climate Reality Project and Polar Bears International in order to document the severe climate change of the region. Along the way Kelly and her team sough out first descents in a rarely accessible winter zone.

The Home Brew Series, presented by Alpenglow Sports and Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema, is designed to showcase local athletes who live regular lives AND accomplish extraordinary feats in the mountains. The series is designed to be mellow, free, and community-centric for all ages and abilities.

MK2Kelly’s show is the third installment in a four-part series that runs once per month from November through February. Join the professional freeskier and her team aboard the 63-foot schooner the La Louise for amazing polar scenery, icebergs, steep descents, deep powder, and unique cultural adventures.

The show is a ski experience that caters to anyone who is fired up to earn their turns, whether via sailboat or their own legs. Enjoy mellow Polar Powder filled bowls to pristine and beautiful couloirs on January 9th.

While the show is free, attendees are encouraged to arrive early for good seating. Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema will serve refreshments and participants are encouraged to remain after the show for additional festivities.

MK3About Meghan Kelly: Meghan Kelly has played sports with an unbridled passion her entire life. In her youth, she excelled at team sports before falling completely in love with skiing powder in the western United States. Since 2006 she’s been pushing to progress women’s skiing by chasing freeskiers at her home resort of Kirkwood, California. She has also ventured extensively into the Sierra Nevada backcountry, skiing many of the 4000-meter peaks in the range.

Kelly began competing in big mountain competitions in 2011, followed by global travel in search of steep runs in beautiful places. She resides in Lake Tahoe and when not skiing, she works as an engineer and scientist to help protect the environmental resources of enchanting Lake Tahoe.

Kelly is also the leader of the California chapter of Shejumps, an advocacy group that strives to increase female participation in outdoor activities by building upon a supportive community that inspires its members to reach their highest potential. More information can be found here.
