Deep Powder Alerts hoisted for the Sierra Thursday /Friday! Strong damaging alpine winds likely tonight and Thursday morning (90-120 Gusts) easing by Friday morning. That storm will pound the entire Sierra range from Truckee through Mammoth with 2-3 feet of snow. Onset will be dense (7500 foot snow levels) Lowering to 6,000 feet early Friday (Face shots likely). Snow intensity will be highest north of Interstate 80 Thursday morning and peak over Truckee and areas south in the afternoon through Friday. Lift Closures a sure bet on Thursday due to winds. Friday will be your deep day and may certainly be worth a chase for the limited terrain that is open.
Another storm is due Monday night and Tuesday with light- moderate amounts especially towards Mammoth. Long term looks active with perhaps a heavy event next weekend! We think El Nino is finally kicking in!
Northwest- Cascades, BC – Rain has been falling at lower elevations of the Cascades with some high elevation snow above 6,000 feet. Temperatures will cool through Saturday with a cold front stalling over Whistler Thursday afternoon (Heavy high alpine snow likely). That cold air moves into the Cascades Thursday night and Friday with a trend for moderate high alpine snow and light to moderate base elevations snow. Snow will be falling over all mountain passes of the Cascades late in the week. The weekend trends drier. Next week will be colder with several light to moderate events likely at all elevations in the Cascades! Moderate to heavy snow possible near Spokane by next Wednesday which moves into Idaho on Thursday (Cold air with low snow levels).
Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming:
California storm moves into the 4 corners Friday night/Saturday with moderate snow likely forFlagstaff (5-10) and lighter amounts for northern New Mexico. Utah sees moderate snow with a focus in the central and southern regions of the State. Northern portions towards the Wasatch (Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Park City etc.) will see snowfall early Saturday morning through Saturday evening. Precipitation starts out on the warm side and cools through the day Saturday with light snow likely around Salt Lake City by afternoon. Total amounts will be in the 4-7 inch range in the mountains with some edge towards Park City (Southerly flow), and Big Cottonwood Canyon (Solitude, Brighton). The Tetons grab action Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning however amounts will be on the low side due to Southerly flow and most precipitation falling East of the Divide. There might be some surprise 4-6 inch amounts at best?
Colorado Powder?
The 4 corners energy will focus on the southern mountains Saturday afternoon through early AM Sunday. Winds shift on Sunday to the North which will enhance snowfall over the Continental Divide. Areas from Monarch to Eldora including Winter Park, Loveland and Berthoud Pass stand the best chance for the White Room on Sunday. Amounts near Wolf Creek might approach 4-7 on Sunday morning and areas near the Front Range could be higher by Sunday afternoon (5-10). . Best day to chase will be Sunday (south early and perhaps front range by Noon).
The long term shows some moisture in the south midweek and a chance of a larger storm in northern and central Colorado next weekend!
