Atmospheric River event setting up for the Northwest this week (Heaviest Tuesday-Thursday) with significant rain below 6,000 feet.  High mountain peaks near Baker, Mount Hood and Crystal(7,000 and higher) will see dense snow up top.  A general cooling trend in the Northwest will bring snow to the bases by the end of the week and moderate amounts to all ski areas (5-10).  The Sierra will see a significant storm by Wednesday night that peaks on Thursday and Friday. An excess of 3-4 feet could fall at the highest peaks and significantly less at lower elevations. . All elevations of the Sierra should see snowfall late in the week!
SIERRA- POWDER WATCH
Heavy rain will move into the Tahoe Basin by Wednesday afternoon or evening peaking Thursday AM through Friday PM.  Snow levels will be above 7,500 feet (Upper elevation snow).  Heavy snowfall of 2-3 feet is likely at the mountain peaks through Friday (North favored) with higher amounts possible.  Cooler temperatures will move in late Thursday night or Friday morning bringing snowfall to the bases of most resorts (Moderate amounts above 5,000 feet).   The Good? Heavy deep snow is likely for the upper peaks of all ski areas in the Sierra from Mammoth and north early in the storm cycle. Colder by Friday morning!  The Bad?  Rain will be falling at lower elevations until Friday when moderate snow will be falling from lake level and higher.  The Chase?  THURSDAY AND FRIDAY COULD BE DEEP AT THE upper elevations. Perhaps Mount Rose, Kirkwood, or Mammoth would be good bets? Squaw upper mountain?  snow will be falling at all base elevations by Friday!  This might be the most significant storm this season for upper elevations?
