The owner of Wolf Creek ski area, Davey Pitcher, has been sentenced to probation, community service and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine following the death of Wolf Creek ski patroller Colin Sutton on March 4, 2014. Sutton died in an avalanche while conducting snow-safety research on public land 16 miles southeast of the ski area.

The Forest Service filed misdemeanor charges against Pitcher after he pleaded guilty to conducting search and rescue training on public land without a permit.
