Heavy Powder Watch designates excess of 15 inches in 24 hours.  The week ahead will see rewards in the Cascades, Sierra, Rockies, and areas of southern BC.  Light snow will be falling over the Cascades, Sierra, and Tetons Wednesday-Thursday (Not significant).  A moist system will impact the Cascades including the Spokane Valley Friday-Saturday.  That system splits off deep moisture over the Sierra late this week and moves into Idaho, Southern BC, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado through the weekend.  Snow will be falling into Monday morning of next week! Today’s big news is 2-3 feet of lake effect snowfall in Upstate New York!

CASCADES:  Light snow will be falling just above the base areas (4,000 foot snow level) Wednesday/Thursday (2-6) from Crystal to Baker (Southern zones favored).  Snow will turn heavy Friday afternoon and evening with 12-15 inches likely by Saturday morning (Southern and Central Cascades Favored under Westerly Flow).

SIERRA:  Teaser storm likely Thursday with light snow.  Moderate to heavy snow will fall over most of the Sierra (Central and North favored) late Friday night peaking Saturday morning (Mammoth and south- Peak later Saturday). Expect a wide area of 9-14 inches!  Light snow continues into Sunday. Woo Hoo

ROCKIES:  Light snow will teasing northern Utah (Idaho border) and the Tetons on Thursday (Grand Targhee opens Friday). Moderate snow moves into central Idaho (We like Boise area, Sun Valley, Stanley for amounts), Friday night into Saturday AM (Heavy by daybreak).  The Tetons get moderate snow Saturday/Sunday (Could add up nicely). The Wasatch hit the Bulls eye Saturday late morning through Sunday night (Snowbird opens this weekend).  Expect the Northern Wasatch (Snowbasin, Powder, Beaver) to be favored Saturday under SW flow. Winds shift to the West/NW Saturday night enhancing snowfall over Park City, Cottonwoods, and areas south into Sundance (Provo).  Amounts will be significant in many areas (11-18) by Monday morning (light snow showers).

Colorado grabs the action Saturday afternoon through Monday!  Expect a wide area of snowfall from the San Juan’s to the Front Range under Westerly Flow. Amounts are hard to pinpoint at this point.  I am more bullish for Aspen, Beaver Creek, North San Juan’s and and resorts further west.  Expect a wide area of 9-12 inches perhaps more (Summit- 5-10).

THE DEEP CHASE?
