Colorado grabbed some respectable Freshies this week with up to 9 inches at Breckenridge, 7 at Steamboat and 3-6 inches near the divide (A Basin, Loveland). High Pressure has a firm grip with warming temperatures through much of this week and early next. Light snow is possible over the highest peaks of central Idaho and Montana by mid week.

The Pacific Northwest will see some snow over 5500 feet late tonight and Wednesday morning.   Moderate rain has fallen in the past 24 hours and returns tonight and Wednesday.   Colder air will allow higher terrain (Mid mountain and up) to see it’s first snowfall of the 2014/15 season. We don’t expect more than 3-5 inches as most moisture is decreasing with the coldest air due Wednesday morning.  More rain will be falling late in the week over the Northwest and active pattern continues in the extended forecast.  We see some cold air returning and perhaps a decent dump towards the last week of October.

The Sierra gets a squeeze of moisture Wednesday morning north of Interstate 80 (Flurries to perhaps 1-2 inches north).  Light showers might be falling over central and northern California this weekend with a larger system due early next week (High snow levels). The patterns seem to shift more moisture south in the extended.

Snow making has been in full force over many areas of the Rockies this week with Loveland and A Basin competing for fist opening rights. Mid winter like conditions existed last weekend (Cold temperatures, snowfall, and snowmaking) however with the warming temperatures this week snowmaking will only be possible at night.  Stay tuned for opening dates!
