POWDER ALERT- Sierra, Rockies Friday-Sunday

From: powderchasers.com

Halloween will bring its first decent storm to many areas of the West. Timing has slowed slightly bringing moderate snow to the Sierra Friday night into Saturday. Coldest air arrives Saturay with light valley snow and moderate mountain accumulations above 7000 feet (6-12). Southern and northern Sierra should do well ( Mammoth to Squaw ).

Models differ on the path through the Rockies. Our best guess currently is decent snowfall over the Ruby Mountains of Nevada Saturday migrating into the Wasatch late Saturday night (5-10). Moisture should be abundant in central and southern Idaho pushing leftovers into the Tetons and southern Montana this weekend. Colorado will see orographics kick in with cold air and less moisture. Cold air alone could kick 4-8 into many higher mountains statewide. The Cascades continue to get rain and very high elevation snow (BC). Colder temps late this week will return some light snow to many ski areas Friday. The extended looks very wet in the Northwest. Keep the snow dances going!
