As seen in the above video, Garrett McNamara set the world record for biggest wave ever ridden last year at this location and it looks like similar conditions are shaping up off the coast of Nazare, a fishing town north of Lisbon, Portugal.  A 125-mile long underwater canyon – which is up to three miles deep – combines with strong Atlantic currents to create the enormous waves. Big waves surfers from around the globe are descending on Nazare in hopes of catching the next world record wave.

Unofficial will keep an eye on this situation and provide up to date information and videos as they come.
