The Aspen Skiing Co. has added a mandatory fitness test for their some 1,500 workers who earn their pay working the ski slopes in the Colorado resort town.
The initiative, dubbed “Work Ready,” is designed to ensure that all employees with physically demanding jobs can perform those jobs without endangering their own health.
Components of the test include push-ups, stepping onto an elevated platform, hopping and balancing on one foot. In order to help workers prepare for the test the Aspen Skiing Co. is making fitness consultants available to them in the lead up to the winter season.
A company spokesperson told the Aspen Times that most employees have accepted the challenge as part of the job, with only a small percentage lodging complaints about it.
